Every day we get asked about our summer programs by parents that are seeking the best place for their son or daughter to develop. We have put together a wide variety of programs to fit the various skill sets, age and abilities of the players involved in basketball in our community. This is a good thing, however, it can lead to some confusion about which programs players should enroll in.

I just want to have some fun this summer and play the game I am starting to love

The answer to this is easy, we run an excellent Summer Ball program that is a mix of House League and Rep level talent. Each game day features a short half hour of skill development followed by a game. On average we have 200-250 kids that play every year in this league.

I want a camp for my child age 5-12 and they are just starting out in the game.

This would be our Micro Baller Camp. During the year our Microballers program literally attracts several hundred children to the game. The camp environment gives us the opportunity to spend a little longer developing the skills with the young player while still focusing on making the camp a fun experience.

I want a serious ballers camp for my rep level son or daughter

Two very intense camps for serious players are the Ganon Baker Camp (July 9-13th) and the Prep for Rep camp(Aug 20-24th) both of these camps are well attended (read waiting listed if you are not quick). Ganon is a Nike skill instructor and is hands down one of the top skills trainers in the world and should not be missed. No one has ever left this camp thinking they were not challenged. The Prep for Rep camp is run by our Development First staff and has proven to be just the right level of tune up for returning and hope to be rep players. This camp is intense, focused on skill acquisition and for serious players.

I am committed to developing over the summer What should I do?

The 12 Week Off Season Development Program is for the player who is truly committed to working on their skills and their body throughout the summer months. This flexible program is run in two time slots daily monday to thursday from 6-8pm and 8-10pm and features an hour with strength trainers from FITS and an hour of skill development with our Development First staff. This will be the third year running this program. Over 130 players from various Rep Club teams have participated over each of the past two summers. This is an intense all summer long commitment to improving your game.

I am on an elite path, I believe I can play at the next level.

FITS High Performance strength and conditioning program combined with individual one on one skill development with our trainers will probably be your route. Contact the office for details

I want my child to get the individual focus on their game that they can’t receive in the team setting

One on one and small group sessions are yielding tremendous results with players in our community. We normally run these between the hours of 3-6 pm. Training sessions last one hour, and truly does produce a confident, more skilled player.

I hope this brief blog helps answer some questions, please feel free to call the club line or use the contact form on our website if you have further questions.

Congratulations on a tremendous season, Oakville is proud of you!

Oakville U11 Drops Final Game in Provincials

At the beginning of the season Oakville Venom boys U11 basketball coaches Allan Ramsay and Marko Juricic knew their team would be very competitive, likely competiting amongst the top teams in Ontario. This past weekend their premonitions came true as Oakville worked it’s way into the gold medal game of the top division at the Provincial Boys Basketball Championships.

Oakville earned their ticket to the finals with convincing victories in the preliminary and playoff rounds against Brampton Warriors, Durham City Bulldogs, Vaughan Panthers and IEM Newmarket Spartans. Those victories set the stage for a battle of the titans as Oakville Venom, ranked number 2 in the Province, faced Scarborough Blues, the defending champions who were ranked number 1. These two teams last played one another in December with Scarborough coming away with a 1 point win in overtime.

Sunday’s championship game was another thriller for the crowd. The teams stayed close to one another throughout the first half with Oakville holding a 4 point lead at intermission. In the second half the game was a see-saw affair with both teams making clutch shots and great defensive plays. Entering the final period Scarborough held a precarious 1 point lead. The last few minutes of the game were intense. The gym was loud and the fans were on their feet cheering. In the end Scarborough held on for a hard fought 62-56 victory.

Oakville was lead by the strong play of Addison Patterson who led all scorers with 18 points and was named Oakville’s game MVP.

Members of the Oakville include Anthony Briscoe, Zachary Meier, Chris Stagl, Alexander Krstic, Latrell O’Neal, Okay Djamgouz, Nicholas Chivaran, Scott Ramsay, JusTus Vasilakos McRae and Michael Juricic and Addison Patterson. The team is coached by Allan Ramsay and Marko Juricic.
